Walking the Alpujarras - Guides

Our experienced guide, Carole, has been leading treks since 1974 and has a thorough knowledge of the Alpujarras and Sierra Nevada.

Carole Donovan first visited the Alpujarra in Andalucia, southern Spain, in 1971 on a horse trek. This led her to return three years later as a trek leader for Aventura, a role she continued in until 1977. She began running her own walking treks in 1978, initially through Caravanes de Jeunesse Belge and then from 1981 through Exodus, becoming the company's first outside operator and also its first female trek leader.

Now being fully independent allows her to do what she enjoys most - providing guests with personal hospitality and sharing with them her knowledge of the Alpujarra. Years of working and living in the area has resulted in long friendships with both the local inhabitants and many former clients.

Her skill in following hidden trails in the area is matched by her knowledge of where to find the best tapas!
